Oconomowoc

Oconomowoc lies within the area known to residents of Southeastern Wisconsin as "Lake Country".  Aptly named for the "up north feel" of many meandering tree-lined roads and acres of lakes within the 12.18 square miles of the city's borders. It is these geographics and natural beauty that drew early settlers and in the mid 1800's became known as "The Newport of the West", a summer resort community for wealthy families from across the Midwest United States.

Oconomowoc remains a popular summer destination and continues to create a high quality of life for its residents. Water, fishing and nature enthusiasts are drawn  to the creeks and rivers which connect the area's larger lake bodies of  Lac La Belle (1154 Acres ), Oconomowoc Lake (818 Acres), Okauchee (1210), Golden (252), Silver (217) and  Fowler (97 Acres). Oconomowoc continues to develop new facilities for  the growing population and since 2003 those developments include a YMCA at Pabst Farms, two Intermediate Schools, Community CenterPerforming Arts Center, High School Fieldhouse with continued development of the High School Sports complex.

The Oconomowoc Area School District includes the Town of Ashippun in Dodge County, the Town of Ixonia and the Village of Sullivan in Jefferson County, the Villages of Summit, Oconomowoc Lake and Lac La Belle and portions of Okauchee and Nashotah in Waukesha County. It is home to Oconomowoc High School, a member of the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference.

Milwaukee Public Television's, Around the Corner with John McGivern on March 27, 2014, featured Oconomowoc. While the original meaning of Oconomowoc has been reported to be, "Where the Waters Meet", and its nickname is "The 5 O's", John was right -- " just settle in and enjoy this hard to spell town in the heart of Lake Country. Yes, Oconomowoc already has a lot of O's, but let us add one more: O-utstanding!"
