Jennie's Kitchen Remodel: The Long Awaited BEFORE Photos

Posted: December 19, 2014 by Lucine Spheeris

OK... OK... I know many of you have been patiently waiting for the "before" photos of our kitchen... Again, I wanted to make this semi-fun... so I have created a video for you to give you the quick tour.... then I have broken down some of the specific challenges we are looking to overcome in our kitchen remodel for those of you who want to delve into this with us!

Video Tour!

REASON #1 - Move This Wall!:  This is our #1 reason we want to re-do our kitchen.  We have awesome wood cathedral ceilings and then a wall separating our living space with fireplace from the current kitchen.  IF the engineer approves, this wall needs to go!

REASON #2 - Galleys Are For Submarines and Ships:  We want a more modern flow to our kitchen.  The galley style just encourages people (and animals) to get underfoot when you are trying to cook a family meal.

REASON #3 - Erase the Timeline of Period Lighting:  There are light fixtures reminiscent of each of the three decades since this home was built.  We would like to bring them all into TODAY'S world and have them match!

REASON #4 - Those Pullout Shelves were Decorative ONLY:  Yes, as you can see in this photo, the wonderful pull out shelf doesn't pull out because the door hits the baseboard heater.... this is SUPER convenient.

REASON #5 - Bowls, Bowls Galore!:  We have 3 dogs who each have their own food bowl.  We DEFINITELY need some kind of bowl management system in our new kitchen.

REASON #6 - Wallpaper is WACKY:  There isn't much that needs to be said here... the basket weave, floor to ceiling, light yellow wall paper needs to go!

REASON #7 - TV Tray Anyone?: Our new kitchen needs a defined dining space that allows for everyday options as well as possible expansion options for company.  This can be done either as part of an island, or as a defined seating area... that remains to be seen...

So, that pretty much sums up the main challenges we are looking to overcome!  Let's see how many we can accomplish.  We will see you all in 2015 as we start this journey!!
